I agree that this is a great list! Some really positive changes to make. I particularly like not writing names on the board and calling home after a week. Thanks!

I admire you for your commitment to a positive classroom and to transparent, reflective blogging. Thanks and keep up the good work. You and Mathew were a great one-two punch on classroom management strategies tonight.

Great blog! I'd been searching around seeing who else was out there providing solid info for teachers, and your's popped up in my Google Alerts. I now plan on being a loyal reader and look forward to your posts.

I very much enjoyed your list of actions, especially as they pertain to getting students to take ownership of their actions as well as encouraging goal setting and evaluating.

Solid stuff here. I'll be posting a link on my own blog. Keep up the great work!

Tigunas and Mathew,

I'm glad you both like the list and I've seen some of the good stuff you've written, Mathew.

Classroom management is definitely an art, not a science, isn't it?

This is great. I've been writing about classroom management too.

My favorite things that you mention are realizing that you needed to change the whole classroom structure (by changing seats and changing procedures). I like that your private signals respected students and gave them some say and responsibility in their own behavior. And I like that you found a way of dealing with behavior that didn't involve calling home for help (because that often doesn't help).

Thank you for this list. This is really helpful, especially at this time of the year. I'm about to start some students learning how to blog & contribute to wikis, and this is a practical list to keep in mind.
